THERE’S this Facebook video where a little boy kept winning sayote in all of the parlor games he joined. I don’t know if the vid was made for ‘like’ purposes only, or winning that sayote was the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. It reached a point where he would throw away his sayote prize.
There was a time when I couldn’t win anything in raffle draws. And then, I began to finally win a tablet here, a pair of headphones there, and a mug everywhere.
Now that Christmas is so near, start imagining the raffle prizes you will win—the law of attraction and all that jazz.
The planning phase of Christmas parties has already begun. If you’ve not been invited to at least one party yet, it’s time to socialize pa more.
But socializing can be torture to the introvert for which I may morph into when I’m in my retirement mode and I’d rather stay home, read books, and sleep early so I can wake up fresh and energized for gym the morning after.
I guess I’ve reached that age where I’ve been there, done that with all sorts of parties, from the sosyal to the pasosyal, from the gift-giving party to the raffle-prize party, from the five-star-hotel party to the no-star-hotel party, from office parties to house parties.
But what if a particular party has something new? And I’ll only realize that if I say yes to the invite.
Christmas is the time when there can be two invites in one evening, and choosing which to attend will only make me whine and complain: why oh why. I would have gladly said yes to both invites but jumping from one party to another can be stressful if their venue is not the same.
What will be the deciding factor on which party to attend? Hmmm. The lechon? But it won’t be proper to ask the host if his party has lechon. Haha.
Yes, it’s that time of year for piggies to quiver in fear. Aside from the lechon, there’s the Christmas ham.
The high-carb dieter will have more choices, of course. In addition to the lechon and ham, he can feast on anything and everything from puto bumbong and bibingka to the macaroni salad and fruit salad. This is when the carnivore will say, Sanaol. But with the side effects he will immediately feel after carbo-loading, he now knows better.
With all the parties to be squeezed into the 31 days in December, expect traffic to get worse than it already is. It’s only November but going uptown or downtown already takes an hour during rush hours.
In case you haven’t noticed, if the traffic has leveled up to infinity and beyond in Cagayan de Oro, for sure there’s a Road and Traffic Administration (RTA) enforcer unsuccessfully trying to lessen the chaos.
If only the RTA enforcer can be Barry Manilow singing this: “As sure as I'm standing here/You’ll never have to be afraid/As sure as I’m standing here/I’ll try and help you find your way/Oh I swear, as sure as I’m standing here/You’ll never need to be alone/You’ve got my word/As sure as I’m standing here.” But since he’s not, what can you expect? More traffic, more complaints about the traffic, more Facebook posts about the traffic.
