MUNAI, Lanao del Norte — Free medical consultations and medicines helped ease healthcare costs for residents of Barangay Lininding as the Army’s 44th Infantry Battalion held a community outreach program ahead of its 49th founding anniversary.
The October 18 activity brought together the 44th Infantry “Agile N’ Stable” Battalion, the provincial government of Lanao del Norte, the municipal government of Munai and barangay officials for a day of medical assistance, gift-giving, tree planting and children’s activities.
For 35-year-old Anisah Madkura, the medical mission offered a chance to receive a free checkup and medicines without spending money.
Madkura, who said it was her first time joining a medical mission in the area, received cetirizine for allergies and paracetamol.
She welcomed the initiative, saying free consultations and medicines were particularly helpful to residents who could not always afford healthcare expenses. She also praised the soldiers for their friendly approach.
Samsudin Ampaso, 46, likewise expressed gratitude for the assistance, saying it provided much-needed support for financially struggling families.
He hoped similar activities would continue to help residents access essential medicines and other basic necessities.
Lt. Col. Jeremy D. Damonsong, 44IB commander, said the initiative reflected the military’s role beyond national defense, including service to communities through health and development programs.
He thanked barangay officials, community leaders and residents for their continued support and cooperation with the Army.
Damonsong said the battalion’s anniversary was an opportunity to honor the sacrifices of past soldiers, serve communities today and work toward a safer and more peaceful future.
Munai Mayor Racma Andamama also thanked the military for its presence and assistance to residents, recognizing the importance of its partnership with the local government in bringing essential services closer to communities.
Aside from the medical mission, the outreach program included tree planting to promote environmental awareness, gift-giving and games for children.
The activity formed part of the battalion’s pre-anniversary initiatives focused on public service, peace-building and community development.
The 44IB marked its 49th founding anniversary on October 20 at its headquarters in Nangka, Balo-i, Lanao del Norte, under the theme, “49 Years of Courage and Commitment: Honoring the Past, Serving the Present, and Securing the Future.”
