TODAY marks a milestone in the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro East Urban (RCEU), Rotary International (RI) Club No. 27590 of District 3870,  as it holds its 25th Induction and Turnover Ceremony at the Platinum Ballroom of  Mallberry Suites Business Hotel, this city. On hand to grace the occasion as keynote speaker is Socorro Alicia R. Quirino, more popularly known as Cory Quirino, grand-daughter of former President Elpidio Quirino. Ms. Quirino is a woman with many talents. A civic leader, tri-media personality, book author, newspaper columnist, beauty pageant license holder, motivational  speaker and wellness advocate and entrepreneur. On top of that, she is a mother  and grandmother who has found the secret of the fountain of youth. She is a Rotarian and is past district officer and past president of the Rotary Club of Makati Legaspi under RI District 3830. The new officers of RCEU for Rotary Year 2015-2016 will be inducted into office by RI District Governor Leo E. Ochia.  They are as follows: Ma. Concepcion Borja Lagonera, president; Lessandra Joy L. Gan, vice president for external affairs; Rosemarie A. Dizon, vice president for internal affairs; Liluisa Dacudao, secretary; Melba R. Galvez, assistant secretary; Justina T. Uy, treasurer; Shalom F. Caparas, assistant treasurer; Ma. Victoria G. Abogado, auditor; Virginia A. Ceniza, protocol officer; Rebecca P. Esguerra, communications Officer, and; Shirley Mae B. Serate, assistant communications officer. Also to be inducted with their new positions are: Myrna S. Motoomull as immediate past president, and Rachaille Astrid P. Ferrer, president-elect for RY 2016-2017. Club Directors/Committee Chairpersons will also be inducted into office.  They are Rachaille Astrid P. Ferrer for membership; Ella L. Yu, administration; Guadalupe J. Chu, public relations; Sarah P. Borja, service projects; Shirley T. Escano, The Rotary Foundation; Agnes O. Adviento, new generation, and; Myra V. Balandra, international services. The incoming president who is fondly called “Conchitina,” has signified to keep her commitment with RI. “Although it entails a lot of effort, sacrifice and strength to surpass the demands of the job as president and leader of a premier Rotary Club, there’s no turning back,” she said. From what  she has seen from her predecessors, she further said she will “take it by heart to specifically pick up the good and positive traits they all possess.” Soon to celebrate its silver jubilee by October this year, RCEU is an all-women Rotary Club composed of 52 professionals in various fields of endeavor. It was organized in 1990 with Elizabeth “Ybeth” L.  Yu as the charter president.  The Club has also produced one District Governor in the person of Fe “Bing” R. Juarez.
