Shimenet like the idea of incumbent Davao City District 1 Rep. Paolo Duterte running for reelection.

Shimenet like the idea of Rep. Paolo’s son, Brgy. Buhangin Proper Chair Omar Duterte, running for Davao City District 2 representative.

But these are no longer ideas—they’re happening already. Much like what’s happening in Batangas where former House Deputy Speaker Vilma Santos and her two sons Luis and Ryan are running for governor, vice governor, and District 6 representative, respectively.

Now that Willie Revillame is running for senator, anything is possible. But this is not the first time for showbiz people to join the political fray. Erap Estrada even became president.

Here in Cagayan de Oro, the family that stays together, runs together, too.

There’s the incumbent mayor running for reelection, and his son, a barangay chair, running for District 1 representative.

There’s the former mayor running for mayor, and his daughter, a city councilor, running for reelection.

There’s the incumbent District 1 representative and his city councilor brother running for reelection.

There’s the incumbent District 2 representative running for reelection; his sister, the vice mayor, running for reelection; his brother running as a party-list representative; and one more relative running for city councilor.

CDO politicians who have served their full term are being replaced by their children or siblings. Talk of always getting one’s foot in the door. Otherwise, the whole family will be outside that door. This could be the only motivation for political candidates to run. Forget about genuine public service, and focus on self-service. Sariling sikap. To each their own in securing commissions? Hmmm.

At least CDO’s political-color alliances don’t clash anymore, because once upon a time, there was the violet-orange combo. Ugh.

The opposition’s yellow and violet are a good combo. Their mayoral candidate is yellow, and their District 1 congressional candidate and some city-councilor candidates are violet.

Green is the color of the incumbent mayor and orange has always been the favorite color of the incumbent District 2 representative. They’re running for reelection under the same team, and their colors are a good combo, too, they don’t clash.

The incumbent District 2 representative and the opposition’s mayoral candidate would have been the better partners, though, resulting to a yellow-orange combo which could have produced an actual color, amber. And they’re both lawyers and great public speakers—imagine the campaign speeches.

But when I say, good combo, I’m referring to the colors and not the political parties’ plataporma which could be porma only. Much like Carlos Yulo’s crop top—porma only. Oops.

Which reminds me of this weird news about a Cebu City teacher who bit his male students for refusing to lift their shirts and show their abs to him. If they were wearing crop tops, that request would not have been necessary.
