STRUGGLE is real in my low-carb journey. This month has been particularly struggle galore.
It must be the Christmas season, worsened by the fact that I watched “Red One” and somehow started believing that a kidnapped Santa Claus could postpone or even cancel Christmas. No Christmas gifts. Darn.
Or it must be the fact that Christmas means ham and fruitcake and I’m helping my tummy practice for the digestion that’s required for the mix and match of proteins, fats, and carbs.
Or it must be my ever reliable emotional eating again and the only way to combat this is to commit fully to the carnivore diet, and ignoring the free popcorn at the Director’s Club, the unli-rice at some restos, the free donut that goes with the coffee… Wait, caffeine increases my blood pressure, so, that means goodbye to coffee and the free donut.
Or it must be this: I had to stay awake while watching “Wicked,” but the sugar rush from the free popcorn kept me awake only for a few minutes, and once the sugar rush was gone, I slept throughout most of the movie, and only woke up when Elphaba and Glinda began singing “Defying Gravity”:
“I hope you’re happy/I hope you’re happy now/I hope you’re happy how you’ve hurt your cause forever/I hope you think you’re clever.”
“I hope you’re happy/I hope you’re happy, too/I hope you’re proud how you would grovel in submission/To feed your own ambition/So though I can’t imagine how/I hope you’re happy right now.”
And if I want to understand why the two main characters ended up singing that song, I guess I have to watch the movie again. And get free popcorn again? Juice colored.
Or it must be this: I’m sleep-deprived, and my body is making up for the lack of sleep by craving for sugar.
The low-carb diet has several sub-groups, and going back and forth between carnivore and liberal can only confuse the body, prompting it to ask, Ano ba talaga?
When my coach told me that I’d have my Evolt scan on Friday, I said, But my made-in-China smart scale at home is not giving me the best results, surely the Evolt would reveal the same.
The secret behind keeping Evolt and smart-scale results is to be carnivore or at least low-carb forevermore. The same goes for health, of course, since the Evolt and smart scale provide a glimpse of how that health is behaving.
But my eyes now twinkle when I see carbs. At least I’ve not binged on rice yet. I can still say no to that. It’s the other carbs that are making me sing, “Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star/How I wonder what you are.”
There was a time when my transition from high-carb to low-carb was made easier by keto goodies which are the lesser evil compared to high-carb goodies.
And there was that time last month when I was able to stick to the carnivore diet for 21 days.
It’s difficult when you’re the only one doing strict low-carb. But that’s never a reason to indulge again in high-carb food.
