DEPARTMENT of Science and Technology (DOST), in collaboration with the Camiguin National High School (CNHS), has upgraded the school's physical science and biology laboratory.
This initiative involved the installation of DOST Interactive Education Technologies (IETs) and the provision of science laboratory equipment.
One of the IETs deployed is the Outbreak Vanguard, a mobile game-based learning tool that promotes disease prevention and health awareness.

It offers immersive levels and allows students to learn while playing.
The tool can be integrated into classroom settings and serves as a supplementary resource for health lessons.
Another IET installed is the What-If Hypothetical Implementations in Minecraft (WHIMC).
This computer simulation utilizes Minecraft Java Edition to engage students in STEM subjects.
It encourages interactive exploration of scientific concepts through "what if?" questions, stimulating curiosity and interest in fields like astronomy.
In addition to the IETs, the project also provided CNHS with essential science apparatus, including microscopes and chemistry sets.
These materials enable students to conduct hands-on experiments and enhance their understanding of scientific principles.
Approximately 1,500 students are expected to benefit from this collaborative initiative, made possible through the DOST's Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) program.
DOST provincial director Joanne Katherine Banaag, stressed the importance of continuously upgrading science laboratories in public schools, as they play a crucial role in providing detailed information, fostering observation skills, and cultivating students' interest in science.
The upgrading of CNHS's science laboratory was officially launched on June 6, 2023, with a fund turnover event held at the school premises.
During the event, the stipulations of the Memorandum of Agreement were discussed, and the school's science laboratory was visited.
The upgrading initiative aligns with DOST10's broader efforts to enhance the quality of science education throughout the region, specifically in Camiguin.
The project aims to develop students' critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, as well as foster their interest in science, technology, and innovation.
Ms. Emma B. Bacuahon, the principal of CNHS, expressed her full commitment to achieving the expected outcomes of the project.
She acknowledged the significance of DOST's support through the CEST program and anticipated that more students would pursue science and technology courses in the future.
The upgraded science laboratory is expected to contribute to the overall improvement of CNHS's science education program.
