SAW this posted on Facebook: “Focus on yourself, not others.”

See? Facebook has its perks. If you’re following the right pages and influencers, that is.

By right, I mean, whatever is hiyang or swak for you. For me, there’s Davao Conyo, Becoming Minimalist, Diana Lyn, Pinoy Carnivore Healing Lifestyle Group, Zeroing In On Health, Self Improvement Hub, World Carnivore Tribe, the low-carb doctors and coaches, etc.

If you’re following the toxic ones, unfollow them ASAP otherwise you’ll end up stressed the whole day without knowing why.

For face-to-face encounters, beware of energy vampires.

Urban Dictionary defines an energy vampire as a “person who boosts his energy by taking energy from others using an argument, belittlement, criticism, or other one-sided conversation.”

The first name that comes to mind while reading that definition is most probably an energy vampire. He sucks energy out of you instead of blood. So, better the vampire who feeds on blood? Hmmm.

The energy vampire may also always try to prove himself as the best. He sees everyone as his competitor. He’s never contented since he keeps comparing himself with others who have achieved more. He’s happy only when he believes he’s way much better than everybody else.

His journey to the top is fast and furious, buoyed by the energy he has sucked out of people. But he doesn’t look energized. He seems tired and sad after realizing that there are more people whose achievements he has not yet reached.

His aura is negative, dark, and gloomy. Dark clouds are always hovering above his head. His mere presence is enough to darken the mood of the group. Spend a few minutes with him if you want to feel tired and sad, too.

He’s the type who points out what he sees as your weaknesses: you’re fat, you’re slow, you’re boring, you look tired, you don’t have the right accessories. Without realizing he’s describing himself.

He looks down on people whom he thinks he can manipulate. If you’re not powerful, not popular, not rich, he will ignore you. He may acknowledge your presence if he needs something from you, or if he wants to tell you that you suck. Oh, look who’s talking. He’s the one who sucks—energy, that is.

With friends like him, who needs enemies? Haha. And he’s gaining enemies fast as he behaves like a bulldozer in criticizing people. Criticizing them for whatever he believes they lack.

He’s BSS—bilib sa sarili. Which is the only time he focuses on himself.

Most of the time, he’s constantly looking at people, checking out what they have, hoping he can have that, too, plus more.

Ambition can help him achieve more. But too much ambition can hurt him as he fast-forwards through the process, too impatient to wait for the perfect timing, thus, paving the way for the perfect storm instead.

Slowly but surely, it is not in his vocabulary. Achievements should be now na, not later.
