By SHIELA MAE BUTLIG Correspondent HERE’S an unsolicited advice from Homobono Adaza to Mayor Oscar Moreno on how to deal with the “uncooperative” city council: “Gamiton nya iyang angas.” The former Misamis Oriental governor and assemblyman yesterday said this as he trashed the city’s warring politicians, and let loose his feelings of dismay over the state of local politics and its impact on public service. “Nganong bolingon man ang syudad?” said Adaza, adding that the city paled in comparison to Puerto Princesa and Olongapo in terms of cleanliness. From the Laguindingan airport, he said, the uncleanliness starts to become noticeable in Opol town in Misamis Oriental all the way to the city proper. He said city hall and the capitol should do something about the problem. Adaza said the “poor service” was a result of bickerings among local politicians who can’t even agree of city hall’s budget. He said it was time for Moreno to talk with members of the city council, and throw his weight around. “He should tell them, ‘It’s either we agree to have some tactical alliance for the sake of the people whom we are supposed to serve or we can smash each other to pieces.’ It will be their choice. If not, Moreno could sue them,” Adaza said. He said the “uncooperative” members of the city council could be charged with violation of a provision in the anti-graft law. Inorder to do this, Adaza said Moreno would need a no-nonsense lawyer or a legal consultant who would tell lawyers what to do and how to do it. Both Adaza and Moreno are lawyers.
