VARIOUS topics were discussed over the weekend during ABC congress such as disaster risk reduction and management, local governance, and community development.
Experts were even invited to share their knowledge and experience with the barangay officials, giving them a better understanding of their roles and responsibilities.
Provincial Liga Federation President Misamis Oriental Board Member Leonard M. Winstanley said the congress was an opportunity for the officials to network and exchange ideas with their colleagues from other barangays.
“They were able to learn from each other's experiences and gain insights on how to better serve their communities,” according to Winstanley
He added that ABC Congress is an important event for barangay officials as it helps them to stay updated on the latest developments in public service.
It also serves as a platform for them to voice out their concerns and challenges, which can then be addressed by the provincial government, according to him.
“Overall, the ABC Congress is a great initiative that supports the professional development of barangay officials,” he stressed, adding that it helps them to become more effective and efficient in their roles, ultimately benefiting the communities they serve.
The ABC Congress was attended by more than one thousand barangay officials from the first and second districts of the province.
The event was held in two batches at De Luxe Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City, from June 14, 15, to June 16, for the first district and from June 21 22 to June 23 for the 2nd district, all from the province of Misamis Oriental, according to Winstanley.
Winstanley also emphasized that the ABC Congress is mandated by the national government, specifically the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the National Federation of Liga Ng mga Barangays.
The annual refreshment program is designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of barangay officials, ensuring that they are better equipped to serve their communities.
One of the important topics discussed during the congress was the protection of women and children against crimes.
Winstanley reminded the officials of their obligation to prevent and address VAWC or Violation Against Women and Children, which is a constant problem in every barangay.
The ABC Congress was a successful event that provided valuable insights and learning opportunities for the barangay officials.
With the knowledge and skills gained from the congress, they can better serve their communities and contribute to the development of their respective barangays.
Misamis Oriental Board Member Dexter Babano Yasay delivered his short message as he also reminds barangay officials for their function and responsibilities to each constituent during the 2nd Day of ABC Congress for the 2nd batch.
Through this ABC Congress, other problems in each barangay were also discussed, especially the lack of drinking water and the livelihood programs.
Liga Ng mga Barangay secretary of Gingoog City, Maricel Orillo-Garcia, expressed that every ABC Congress is a significant opportunity for barangay officials to enhance their skills in serving the people.
The speakers during the ABC Congress came from various offices such as the DILG regional and provincial office, ECCD of Provincial Capitol, and the Commission on Election in Misamis Oriental, as stated by Winstanley.
