Villanueva, Misamis Oriental, 30 October 2025 - FDC Misamis Power Corporation (FDC Misamis) reaffirmed its commitment to environmental stewardship and community collaboration through a series of sustainable initiatives implemented across Misamis Oriental and Bukidnon.
“Our approach to sustainability goes beyond compliance. It is about partnerships that make a real difference,” said Juan Eugenio L. Roxas, President and CEO of FDC Misamis. “By working hand in hand with local governments, academic institutions, and our host communities, we ensure that our environmental programs have a meaningful and lasting impact.”
Anchored on the company’s sustainability pillars, FDC Misamis’ recent activities focused on environmental restoration, waste management, and resource efficiency.
Among its major undertakings was the Dredging and Riprapping Project in Barangay Poblacion 2, in the Municipality of Villanueva, implemented in partnership with the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO). The project was designed to address recurring flooding through creek rehabilitation and bank stabilization, protecting lives, property, and ecosystems in the process.
Engr. Oliver Ello, MENRO Villanueva, said, “Through this project with FDC Misamis, we were able to address a long-standing community concern. We not only mitigated flooding but also served as a proactive measure to safeguard our residents and sustain the health of our waterways.”
In the Municipality of Tagoloan, the company reinforced its circular economy practices by donating used conveyor belts and water tanks to MENRO Tagoloan. These materials are being repurposed for the town’s bamboo plantation and landfill site, transforming industrial by-products into sustainable community resources.
Complementing these infrastructure efforts, FDC Misamis also conducted tree-growing activities in partnership with various stakeholders. In Sta. Ana, Tagoloan, the company, together with MENRO Tagoloan, planted 95 fruit-bearing trees along the boundaries of the new landfill site to enhance green cover and promote future livelihood opportunities for nearby communities. Meanwhile, in the Municipality of Opol, FDC Misamis partnered with Opol Community College and MENRO Opol to plant more than 100 Narra seedlings. The activity served as both a reforestation initiative and a hands-on learning experience for student volunteers.
Engr. Jeffrey Elogsong, MENRO Tagoloan, said, “We value our continued collaboration with FDC Misamis as we work together toward a more sustainable Tagoloan. The growing activity in Sta. Ana contributes to our local greening program while creating a potential source of revenue for the surrounding communities.”
Extending its reach to Bukidnon, FDC Misamis, together with the Central Mindanao University College of Forestry, conducted a Carbon Sink Monitoring Program on Musuan Peak, tracking the survival and growth of more than 4,000 trees planted since 2022. The initiative supports long-term carbon sequestration and biodiversity enhancement.
Rounding off its sustainability efforts, FDC Misamis also turned over 200 units of used lead-acid batteries to Oriental and Motolite Corporation through the Balik Baterya Program. The safe recycling of these materials prevents landfill contamination and reduces the carbon footprint associated with raw material extraction.
“These programs are a testament to Filinvest’s collective resolve to integrate sustainability into every aspect of our operations,” added Roxas. “Through strong collaboration, we’re not only protecting the environment but also empowering our communities to thrive alongside us.”
With these initiatives, FDC Misamis Power Corporation continues to strengthen its role as a responsible energy partner, advancing sustainable development and environmental resilience across Mindanao.
