FOR committing illegal fishing, a 40-year-old fisherman was arrested by authorities yesterday morning.

Misamis Oriental Provincial Police Director Raniel Valones identified the suspect as Elmer Tuto, married, and a resident of Purok 1, Barangay Lunao, Gingoog City of the said province.

Valones revealed that Tuto was caught in the act fishing illegally while on the seawaters of Barangay San Alonzo, Balingoan of the same province by personnel of Balingoan Municipal Police Station led by Police Lt. Teddy Macarayo.

Macarayo was with Jesus Lopez, Deputized Fish Warden of Balingoan in a joint seaborne operation last Friday at 7:45 am.

During the arrest authorities recovered from the possession of the suspect 20 kilos of newly caught fish, a motorized banca, a Honda engine 13HP (Eng. No. GX3010 1886569), a 12 plates battery, 100 meters fishing net, an improvised wooden paddle, 3 pieces styrofoam box, and 2 pieces light bulbs.

Tuto is now under the custody of Camiguin Maritime Police Station for booking and documentation and will be turned over to the issuing court for proper disposition.

The suspect will be facing a charge in violation of Article X, Section 45 of Paragraph b., Balingoan Municipal Ordinance No. 79-2007 (Fishing Without Permit/Registration from the Local Government Unit.
