By NITZ ARANCON Correspondent OFFICIALS of Barangay Pagatpat have started an investigation into the desecration of 13 graves in the village even as they sounded alarm over the discovery that whoever was responsible for macabre crime were after of human patellas. Pagatpat chairman Gogoy Babaran said 13 sepulchers at the village cemetery were forced open presumably between Friday night and the wee hours of Saturday. Pagatpat police chief Kent Abratiguin said some of the damaged graves emitted stench, indicating that human remains were still under a state of decomposition. He said investigators were stunned to find out that the decomposing bodies and skeletal remains no longer had kneecaps. The discovery of the crime at around 8 am on Saturday sparked suspicions that it was the handiwork of a cult that believed that the stolen kneecaps could be turned into amulets. Babaran said whoever was behind the graverobbery did not spare even the tomb of his brother-in-law. He asked the Bulua police to help in the ongoing investigation, and in bringing suspects to justice. Babaran ordered members of the barangay tanod to keep an eye on the cemetery, and make sure that it does not happen again.
