ILIGAN City ― A man walking along the street early morning today was shot dead by motorcycle-riding men.
Iligan police spokesman Maj. Zandrex Panolong identified the fatality as Virjun Ajero, 39, a resident of Barangay Canaway, this city.
The incident happened at Barangay Tibanga near a hardware store around 6 am, the spokesman said.
By past 7 am, there was traffic gridlock in the area and some vehicles sought alternative routes since the body of Ajero was still in the area and curious onlookers and reporters were at the scene of the crime.
Panolong said the victim was hit in the head, even as investigation on the matter is still ongoing.
Ajero’s wife, who had come to the scene which the police had then cordoned off, could not be interviewed by reporters. It was learned, however, that the victim was a house painter and had left behind five children.
In another development on police matters, the city now has a new acting city director in Col. Dominador Estrada. He replaced the acting city director Col. Wilbur Salagoste.
The turnover was made at the police headquarter at Tipanoy, yesterday morning.
