You’re throwing garbage into the trash bin that’s right in front of you, and that garbage still manages to fall outside of the bin: @&#%*?!
The Star for all Seasons files her Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for Batangas governor, her elder son Luis files a COC for Batangas vice governor, and her younger son Ryan files a COC for 6th district representative of Batangas, and there’s the Batangueño probably going berserk: @&#%*?! Not because all three are running, but because Ate Vi’s hubby former Sen. Ralph Recto, Luis’ wife Jessy Mendiola and their daughter Peanut are not running. Darn. Hehe.
Luis used to be known as Lucky, which the Pinoy couldn’t miss since Ate Vi always mentioned his name each time she said, “I love you, Lucky,” in her TV show way back in the mid ‘80s.
Let’s see—pronounced as that Spanish word for milk—if Lucky will indeed be lucky in 2025. Imagine all three of them winning by then. Wow.
Politics has become a family business in Pinas where political dynasties are tolerated as a part of just another day in paradise.
There’s even the Pinoy who doesn’t care to know who’s who in the country’s political arena. I used to be that Pinoy, so clueless about who’s the mayor of Cagayan de Oro. Or who’s the governor of Misamis Oriental.
There was that time when someone introduced himself to me. He was a ninong at a wedding where I was a guest. He knew me—the perks of being a columnist. Ahem. But I had no idea who he was. Until someone else told me he’s the vice governor.
I’m somewhat still clueless about the who’s who in CDO and Misamis Oriental politics. I can’t memorize the current list of senators. Sometimes I still think Leni Robredo is vice president. That’s why I always have that unsolicited advice for political wannabes: aspire to be the president, governor, or mayor. Don’t remain as vice president, vice governor, vice mayor, city councilor, provincial board member, senator, or congressman.
The word “congressman” is not as strong as “mayor” or “governor.” And the word “governor” is not as strong as “mayor.” It’s the mayor that the residents of a city or town have to deal with, thus, the title’s strong impact.
SM CDO Uptown Northwing has these new gigantic flower pots that are violet, yellow, or blue green. Or perhaps it’s green—I’m not a color expert so please bear with me. There was that friend who had periwinkle as her debut color, and I had to ask her, Peri what?
Upon seeing SM Northwing’s flower pots, the first thing that came to mind was, How timely for the 2025 political campaign season in CDO and Misamis Oriental. If only the mall will add orange there, the colors will be complete.
