IF, say, you’re writing and you now have to get dressed before going somewhere. You continue writing anyway because you’re now in the cone. As in ice cream cone? Er, tone, phone, lone.

Wait, what’s the word? Oh, zone. In the zone and not even the time to catch the worm can make you stop writing. In case you haven’t heard this yet, the early bird catches the worm, thus, the need to leave the house early.

Or should that be, the early columnist catches the word.

Failing to leave the house early will then enable the earlier bird to catch the worm, and that bird will now sell it as worm humba or as grilled worm, complete with sauces that make it so sweet, you can no longer recognize it as a worm.

The Pinoy loves sweet food. Restos, cafes, and food vendors have no choice but to sweeten pork humba and grilled liempo, so that all you can savor now is the sugar and not the pork.

The Pinoy may not have realized yet that meat is already delish as is. No need to embellish.

Sweet spaghetti is another unique Pinoy creation. And there’s the party’s buffet table where sugar is king: buko salad, leche flan, buko pandan, ice cream, cake, soda, fruit juices, halo-halo, maja blanca, puto, biko, sapin-sapin, etc.

The snacks at home can be the condensed milk sandwich or the margarine-and-sugar sandwich or the spaghetti/pancit sandwich. How about the ice cream sandwich: your favorite ice cream flavor in between two slices of white bread.

I’m guessing bread didn’t exist during the Jurassic Age. How could any human being find the time to bake while fleeing from the T-rex and velociraptor?

But you can now watch dinosaur movies while eating bread. The latest installment is “Jurassic World Rebirth.” And I knew it’s going to be a nice movie because it began with this: “17 years ago…” 17 is my favorite number.

Compared to “F1,” though, “F1” is the better movie — must be because it stars my idol Brad Pitt.

“Jurassic World Rebirth” has dinosaurs, “F1” has Pitt. “F1” wins. Yay!

Although the young ones may say that Pitt is also a dinosaur now — old age and all that jazz. If he were Pinoy, will he brandish his senior citizen card at restos, cafes, supermarkets, and drugstores? I wonder.

Talk of supermarkets, shopping for groceries takes less time now that I don’t linger at the high-carb and highly-processed-food aisles anymore. With a grocery list that has beef, pork, and fish, the meat section is where I stay a bit longer. But it’s at the cashier that I may spend more time if an item has no barcode.

Since I’m the only one trying so hard to be carnivore in this household, I still have to buy rice, bread, baked goodies, kakanin, and other carbs and highly processed food items but even with that, grocery shopping is now way much easier for me.

When I was still a high-carb dieter, I’d check each carb item, especially the new ones, to see what I could have as snacks. The bedroom’s mini fridge would then be filled with diet soda, sugar-free chocolates, potato chips, corn chips, peanuts, cashew nuts, cheese, all sorts of baked goodies, and the ingredients for my favorite cucumber sandwich: wheat bread, cucumber, and mayo.

I was in the zone then — the food zone.
