AFTER our yoga class on Thursday morning, the Muzak continued to be nice and cool and relaxing, which yoga is proving to be for me despite the positions that may challenge my weary bones, muscles, and joints. Senior moment pa more.
I’m always curious and this time was no exception. I just had to ask our yoga teacher about that song. And—surprise! surprise!—it’s Taylor Swift.
Taylor Swift? Wow. No wonder there are many Swifties even among my batch mates who grew up listening to Angela Bofill, Whitney Houston, and Karen Carpenter. In case you haven’t noticed, those three are already dead. So, yes, it’s time for our batch to look for new idols.
If you’re curious, too, the song was “Down Bad.” Whose lyrics include “Now I’m down bad crying at the gym.” Hmmm. I haven’t reached that point of no return yet. The gym, after all, is the gym rat’s happy place.
What exactly is a gym rat? He’s the gym cat’s favorite food. Hehe.
I guess I’m a gym rat now. If I was told in, say, 2018 that I’d become a gym rat someday, my reply would have been, Get outta here.
In 2018, I was still blaming my injured left knee for limiting my exercise choices to zero. I was afraid to even go back to my daily walk around the village.
All it took for that knee to be injured was a simple jump. Okay. It was a clueless jump during a circuit training class. After a sleepless night. Lesson learned. Don’t exercise after a sleepless night. Better stay home and sleep. But I did not.
A friend had an even more simple jump that caused her an injury. She had to get something from the upper shelf of her closet. So, she used a chair to reach that. Then, jumped to the floor after. The distance between the seat of that chair and the floor is two feet? But that resulted to her injury.
We both blamed our injuries on our age.
The woman of a certain age is not supposed to be allowed to do a lot of things. Judgmental people have more to say about that. But let’s focus on exercise for now.
I’m extra careful now. I don’t jump anymore. I don’t even jump to conclusions after becoming a victim of gossip in 2015 to 2017. That gossiper, by the way, has recruited two fellow gossipers and they now gossip about the people who used to believe in her gossip. Juice colored. Negative vibes pa more.
There’s a photo of this trio seated beside each other at a gathering, and that somehow confirmed she has found another captive audience. An audience that requires loads of personality development. Just like her. Oops.
The first thought that came to mind upon seeing their photo was, Who’s their topic now?
And guess what—“Down Bad” has the appropriate lyrics for gossipers: “How dare you say that it’s…”
Yeah, how dare these people minding other people’s business. Whew.
