ALL of Cagayan de Oro’s Election 2025 winners are familiar names or have familiar surnames, no need for introductions.

Oh. If only the surname is familiar, perhaps there’s a need for an introduction: You’re the daughter/son of…? You’re the wife/husband of…? You’re the sibling/cousin/nephew/niece/uncle/aunt/grandparent/grandchild of…? And if he says yes, does that mean he belongs to a political dynasty?

Good for the surname that’s not familiar yet. It’s easier to conclude that he doesn’t belong to a political dynasty.

What exactly is a political dynasty? Kana bang gisugo mopalit ug asin, pagbalik niya, siya ug ang iyang pamilya mao nay president, vice president, senator, congressman, governor, vice governor, provincial councilor, city mayor, city vice mayor, city councilor, municipal mayor, municipal vice mayor, municipal kagawad, barangay captain, ug barangay kagawad. Yeah, that’s exag to the nth degree. Hehe.

The highest positions in CDO and Misamis Oriental will be occupied by Uy and Uy. Oi! Are they relatives? I don’t know. I didn’t ask. Sorry po.

For Mayor Klarex Uy, his successful bid for reelection means the Cagayanon loves the way he has governed the city. For Gov-Elect Juliette Uy, the success of her second gubernatorial bid means the Misamis Oriental voter wants a new style of governance.

As Niña says in that viral video, “Parang nag-imagine ka, nakikita mo sa imagine mo, Wow ang taas ko na. Gano’n. Makikita mo sa imagine mo, Sakses ka eh. Bigla kang sumakses eh. Pero step by the step pala bago ka sumakses. Pero yong na-imagine mo, bigla kang sumakses.”

The winners in the mid-term election will define the success of the 2028 presidential election. Much like the winners in the city’s barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections will define the success of the city’s political candidates.

Political candidates prepare for their candidacy way before the filing of the Certificates of Candidacy. The preparation may take at least a decade even for the position of city councilor while weighing the pros and cons of running under a certain political party.

A business owner is particularly careful when he considers the possibility of running. Should he run as an independent to negate the assumption that he favors only one political party? Since he would rather support every political party to ensure his business is protected no matter who wins, and he may still do that while running under one party. Esep-esep pud ‘pag may time.

Meanwhile, the Cagayanon is complaining about uncollected garbage, the traffic, and street vendors.

I’ve learned to write columns while mobile so I don’t see the garbage and street vendors. As for the traffic, the longer it lasts, the more columns I can write. I’ve learned to make the most out of the city’s current situation because it will have the same mayor in the next three years. More kasalan, more lechons and wedding cakes for the kasalan, more newlyweds smooching in the kasalan. All I can say is, Congratulations and Best Wishes! His reelection is a testament to the Cagayanon’s belief that he’s doing the best for the city.

His opponents will, of course, question that belief. There have been allegations of vote-buying against most of the candidates so I don’t think his opponents will even file a case through the Commission on Elections’ “Kontra Bigay.”

In case you haven’t noticed, Comelec has a “Kontra Bigay” committee to oversee cases against vote-buying and vote-selling.
