POLITICIANS accusing each other is like, Look who’s talking.

Politician 1: You’re stealing from the national treasury!
Politician 2: Look who’s talking!

Politician 3: You’ve been demanding commissions from contractors and regional directors!
Politician 4: Look who’s talking!

Politician 5: You’re hiding behind dummies for your businesses, real estate properties, and other assets!
Politician 6: Look who’s talking!

And how lucky the dummies are.

Some Cagayan de Oro politicians are denying they’re now preparing for the 2025 midterm elections except for the former mayor who has already announced he’s planning to run for mayor. I gotta feeling, though, that for now, he’s merely testing the waters: Let’s see how the Cagayanon will respond to this announcement.

At first, I thought his running for mayor would be a surprise, to be announced on the last day of filing the certificate of candidacy.

This reminds me of one particular surprise. The big boss was going to visit the factory, so, the manager asked the storeroom supervisor, who was Chinese, to make sure the supplies were in order. That day arrived and the manager began to show the big boss around, introducing him to the other employees. But the storeroom supervisor could not be found. The manager looked for him when, suddenly, the Chinese supervisor jumped out of one corner and yelled Supplies!

Yeah, lost in pronunciation.

Words of wisdom—hehe—for politicians and political candidates. Once you’re announcing that you’re running, make sure there’s no lost-in-pronunciation, it should be as definite as possible: I’m running for mayor in 2025.

Please don’t say you’re planning to run or intending to run or some other statement that may confuse the Cagayanon whose support you need especially if your opponent can allegedly afford to give at least P6,000 to each potential voter. Build your fan base now. Not later.

2024 is not the time anymore to make pa-cute. Making pa-cute for 2025 is so 2023.

When everybody was busy preparing for the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), the wannabe mayor was still allowed to say, Let’s cross the bridge when we’re there. He could even say that with a straight face and that’s while mentoring his BSKE candidates.

It’s 2024 now, it’s the Year of the Dragon.

The dragon never makes pa-cute.

This reminds me of my most favorite scene in a movie.

Mulan, while picking Mushu off the ground: “Ah, my ancestors sent a little lizard to help me?”
Mushu: “Hey, dragon. Dragon! Not lizard. I don’t do that ‘tongue’ thing. Hisssss.”

That’s from the 1998 animated film “Mulan,” which was way much better than the live-action version released in 2020. “If ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” as the saying goes. That’s good advice for 2025 hopefuls.

There’s this political wannabe whose former team made her appear sweet, kind, and nice to the madlang pehpohl. Public image pa more. Her current team has changed that image to her real aura: dark, dark eye luggage, her fake smiles can’t even hide the darkness.

So, that’s what happens when you’re trying to fix something that ain’t broke.

If you lose in the 2025 elections, here’s A-ha’s “I’ve Been Losing You,” heartily dedicated to your potential voter: “Oh c’mon please now/Talk to me/Tell me things I could find helpful/How can I stop now/Is there nothing I can do/I have lost my way/I’ve been losing you.”
