THERE’S this friend who keeps talking about his romantic conquests in high school and college.

Each time he repeats his stories about his ex-girlfriends, I’m so tempted to remind him, You told me that exact same story for far too many times already.

But I don’t have the heart to be brutally frank with him. I know he’s simply reliving the good old days when we were all young and carefree, with first love and crushes as some of our major concerns. So, I always listen to his stories, no matter how many times he had talked about them before, even if I’ve already memorized the details.

Each person probably has his own version of what could have been. The ex-girlfriend storyteller could have married one of those ex-girlfriends since he still remembers all of them. Whew. Where’s the moving on there?

People who love to talk about their exes are kind of stuck in the past, perhaps still wondering if their life would be happier with that ex. Something similar may also happen to the Pinoy voter who’s still stuck in 1986 when People Power sent the Marcoses to Hawaii.

Right after the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections, that same Pinoy voter might have begun to ask, Who will be the best president for Pinas in 2028? A yellow president? A Marcos relative? Former Vice President Leni Robredo?

In case you’ve forgotten, VP Leni’s political color for 2022 was pink, not yellow. I don’t think she will go back to yellow if ever pushed to run again in 2028.

Pinas’ history has produced too many questions.

If VP Leni became president in 2022, would the price of rice be P20 per kilo now? But she wasn’t the presidentiable who made that campaign promise.

If the yellows were still in Malacanang, will it be possible for PBBM’s mayoral candidate to win in Cagayan de Oro?

If Bonifacio Day wasn’t moved to November 27, would November 30 still morph into KathNiel Breakup Day?

To prevent heartbreaking breakups from happening in the future, a loveteam should end by the time one of them reaches the age of 21. Because it’s impossible to believe that a 28-year-old male showbiz celebrity and his 27-year-old ka-loveteam are still virgins. That’s like waiting for Santa Claus to put gifts under the Christmas tree.

Does Hollywood have loveteams? It could have made more moolah by pairing Leonardo DiCaprio with Kate Winslet after they starred in “Titanic.”

Di Caprio moved on to having relationships with women who are much younger than him. And Kate Winslet got married thrice and has three children. Both were allowed to live their own lives and to bloom in their respective careers, without one holding back the other’s progress for the sake of maintaining and sustaining the loveteam.

A loveteam can be as cute as Barbie and Ken. But its PR team will eventually run out of ideas of how to make it work. Should they make only sweet and romantic movies? Allowed to make movies with an actor/actress outside of the loveteam?

The one and only concern is always to ensure the loveteam will remain intact and can be continually squeezed like a dry orange to make more money for the loveteam and its team.
