“NEVER Enough”: “All the shine of a thousand spotlights/All the stars we steal from the night sky/Will never be enough/Never be enough/Towers of gold are still too little/These hands could hold the world but it’ll/Never be enough/Never be enough.”

“A Thousand Years”: “I have died every day waiting for you/Darling, don’t be afraid/I have loved you for a thousand years/I’ll love you for a thousand more.”

“My Heart Will Go On”: “Near, far, wherever you are/I believe that the heart does go on/Once more, you open the door/And you’re here in my heart/And my heart will go on and on.”

Love songs? Hmmm. Yeah. But more like songs from movies: “The Greatest Showman,” “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1,” and “Titanic.”

And then, there’s Janis Ian’s “At Seventeen” for the movie “Miller’s Girl”: “I learned the truth at seventeen/That love was meant for beauty queens/And high school girls with clear-skinned smiles/Who married young and then retired.”

And then, there’s Sting: “You could say I lost my faith in science and progress/You could say I lost my belief in the holy Church/You could say I lost my sense of direction/You could say all of this and worse, but/If I ever lose my faith in you/There’d be nothing left for me to do.”

Before Sting’s concert at the Araneta Coliseum in 2012, I said I could go home once he had performed “If I Ever Lose My Faith In You.” There I was, waiting for the concert to start. He finally appeared and played the first notes of, yes, that song. And I cried. Memories. But did I go home? After the first song? Of course not. Haha. I thought that would be the encore!

Another song that I’ve been waiting to see performed live is Pearl Jam’s “Light Years”: “And wherever you’ve gone/And wherever we might go/It don’t seem fair/Today just disappeared/Your lights reflected now/Reflected from afar/We were but stones/Your light made us stars.”

Songs can make—or unmake—a Valentine’s Day. Say, you don’t like Air Supply and there’s the love of your life serenading you with “Every Woman in the World”: “Girl, you’re every woman in the world to me/You’re my fantasy, you're my reality/Girl, you’re every woman in the world to me/You’re everything I need, you’re everything to me/Oh girl.” Will that relationship now morph into that of Bea Alonzo and Dominic Roque?

Or will his music preference amuse you since in Eric Carmen’s ideal world, “Love is all that matters/Faithful and forever/Keepin’ us together/Love is all we need.”

But reality is far from ideal, according to Michael Jackson: “And she’s out of my life/She’s out of my life/Damned indecision and cursed pride/Kept my love for her locked deep inside/And it cuts like a knife/She’s out of my life.”

And while dealing with all that reality, here’s David Bowie with “Let’s dance/Let’s dance/For fear your grace should fall/Let’s dance/For fear tonight is all/Let’s sway/You could look into my eyes/Let’s sway/Under the moonlight, this serious moonlight.”

Because “Love moves in mysterious ways/It’s always so surprising/When love appears over the horizon/I’ll love you for the rest of my days/But still it’s a mystery/How you ever came to me/Which only proves/Love moves in mysterious ways,” says Julia Fordham.
