CAGAYAN de Oro City — The Local Government Unit of Maragusan recognized its student athletes and campus journalists during the Pasidungog 2026 celebration, honoring their achievements in recent provincial sports and journalism competitions. 

The ceremony came after the Maragusan Maroon Knights won the overall championship at the 2026 Davao de Oro Provincial Athletic Association (DDOPAA) Meet. The delegation also secured the Elementary Level Championship and first runner-up honors in the Para Games. 

Emilia A. Zamora, District Coordinating Principal of Maragusan East District, said the athletes’ performance reflected the progress built from their experience in previous national competitions. 

“Pagkahuman sa Palarong Pambansa 2026, kung atong balikan, nakita na nila ang potensyal sa Maragusan,” Zamora said. “So, kana pa lang, nakita na ta sa mapa sa sports... Og indeed, mi-champion jud ta!” 

Mayor Cesar Clarion Colina Sr. said the achievements were the result of the combined efforts of the young competitors, schools, coaches, teachers, parents, and the local government. 

“Ang kalampusan sa mga kabatan-onan dili lamang bunga sa ilang kaugalingong talento ug paningkamot, kundili resulta usab sa hiniusang paningkamot sa Lokal nga Panggamhanan, mga eskwelahan, coaches, teachers, ug labi na sa mga ginikanan,” Colina said. 

He also thanked municipal personnel who helped prepare for and support the athletes throughout the competition. 

As part of the recognition, Colina announced that the municipal government will provide cash incentives to gold, silver, and bronze medalists, as well as their coaches, assistant coaches, chaperones, and trainers. 

Zamora also recognized the people who supported the students behind the scenes. 

“Dili lang nato gisaulog ang medalya og kadaugan sa atong mga atleta og sa atong mga journalist,” she said. “Kundi, atong gisaulog usab ang mga tao nga nagpaluyo niining tanan.” 

She said the achievements reflected the discipline, determination, and sacrifices of the athletes, coaches, teachers, trainers, and journalism mentors. 

The ceremony was attended by Vice Mayor Osberht Mar B. Yanong, Sangguniang Bayan members, school heads, and parents. Schools Division Superintendent Phoebe Gay L. Refamonte also congratulated the delegation. 

Student journalists who competed in various events during the Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) were likewise formally recognized during the celebration.
