SM City CDO Uptown has been making the uptowner happy by morphing into a better mall for several months now.

The department store area will reportedly be the new location of the supermarket and vice versa. Which will place the supermarket right across SM Northwing.

There’s one particular development, though, that the gym rat—moi—is looking forward to: the skybridge or elevated walkway that connects the main mall to SM Northwing, which will make my walk from the gym to the mall’s second-floor restos much shorter.

For now, going to the mall’s second-floor restos requires walking from the gym to the escalator and elevator which are located in the middle of Northwing, then crossing the street to SM Store where I may window-shop for a little while. And then, leaving the store and turning left towards the escalator. Once I’ve reached the second floor, that’s when I may decide if I’m hungry or not. Haha.

It’s a long and winding walk. But with the walkway, the shortest distance between two points will be a straight line.

If only they will install escalators for the Masterson side of SM Northwing, that’s another straight line between the gym and the soon-to-open Starbucks located at the corner of Masterson and Las Ramblas. But since I don’t drink coffee anymore, the current route will continue to remind me “Of the mess you left when you went away,” er, of the mess that coffee leaves in my knee. That knee always complains right after a coffee fix. Tsk tsk.

Weight loss is 80-percent food and 20-percent exercise. Good luck na lang to the gym rat of a gym that’s located inside a mall or near a mall, resto, and cafe. Having lunch, dinner, and coffee after gym will become a hard habit to break. Much like what has been happening to me and my gym classmates.

I have a sensitive sense of smell. This nose of mine is a radar for coffee, instant noodles, pizza, etc.—and that’s when I’m inside the gym.

So, try to imagine how this nose behaves upon entering a cafe where the aroma of coffee is the major attraction. It’s enough to inspire me to order the delish Spanish latte. That’s why avoiding coffee requires a lot of discipline. Trying to stop myself from ordering coffee is like forgetting that my most favorite song is Sting’s “If I Ever Lose My Faith in You.”

No, it’s not Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know.” The only thing I wanna do each time I hear that song, is to change its lyrics to: “And I'm here, to remind you/Of the mess you left when” you postponed your concert for far too many times, no thanks to the pandemic lockdowns. Until you eventually cancelled it. But then, you finally decided to have that concert in Manila just when my impatience had already gone through the roof.

I’m now hoping for Duran Duran to finally have a concert in Pinas so they can make every Pinoy fan happy, in addition to PBBM and his old friends.

I do wonder who were invited to PBBM’s birthday party. I think I know at least four: our mutual friends. Ahem. As for the other invitees, I’m 100-percent sure they didn’t include Vice President Sara Duterte and the Duterte political dynasty. Political metamorphosis, anyone?
