CAPITOL COMPOUND, Misamis Oriental — Misamis Oriental governor has announced that the provincial government was given recognition from the Department of Health as Filariasis-free province.
Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano lauded Dr. Jerry Calingasan, head of the Provincial Health Office, for his efforts in protecting the people of the entire province from being harmed by the disease.
Emano said it is good to note that the people also did their part to help the government in sanitation efforts that gains positive result to their health.
Filariasis is a parasitic disease caused by an infection with roundworms of the Filarioidea type.
These are spread by blood-feeding black flies and mosquitoes. This disease belongs to the group of diseases called helminthiases. When bitten by a mosquito, it would cause to bloat three or four times the size of the affected human part. (pio misor)
