CAGAYAN de Oro City—More young people in Northern Mindanao could get a chance to learn job-ready skills if the region makes additional Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) scholarships available.
ABAMIN Party-list Rep. Maxie Rodriguez raised the request during a meeting with TESDA Administrator Kiko Benitez and other agency officials, asking for more scholarship slots this year and in 2027.
The request comes as skills training remains an important option for young people who cannot afford lengthy or costly formal education but need qualifications that can help them find work or start a livelihood.
Rodriguez also acknowledged the TESDA scholarships already being implemented in Region 10 and urged the agency to expand access to more beneficiaries.
For those who qualify, a TESDA scholarship can provide training in practical skills that are directly useful in the workplace, potentially giving job seekers another pathway to employment.
The proposed increase in slots would particularly allow more young Mindanaoans to gain technical skills and improve their chances of finding work or earning a living.
However, the request would still depend on TESDA's available scholarship slots and program allocations for the region.
