A gym friend had his Evolt scan recently and he was disappointed to discover that his body fat increased. We then helped him decipher the reason behind the increase: coffee with everything added to it, plus the cakes and other baked goodies that he orders with that coffee.
He’s young at 22 years old, he can easily lose the fat.
It’s us, the young once and hopefully still young at heart, who may have a difficult time losing the fat, thus, the drastic measures like the carnivore diet resorted to out of desperation.
It’s advisable for the young ones to start practicing the low-carb diet and even the carnivore diet, and to do resistance training at the gym so they can adopt both as their lifestyle. These will strengthen their immune system, protect them from illnesses, and help them avoid maintenance medications.
If only I knew about the carnivore diet when I was young, I won’t have hypertension now. That’s one of my regrets. There’s no use looking back, though, so, I focus on the present and on what I can do today to improve my health.
Another secret to progress is to focus on I, me, and myself. And not on other people.
Have you ever seen a gossiper? She looks like she has no time to take care of herself. Most probably because she’s too busy focusing on other people. She sees everyone’s faults and never her own.
There are only 24 hours in a day, and eight—or four—of that are for sleeping. The remaining 16 hours are for work, exercise, quality time with family, eating, watching Netflix, Facebook, travel, hobbies, bathroom time. Try inserting gossiping in there and you may have to give up, say, Netflix. Why stop watching Netflix and replace it with gossip? Tsk tsk.
Another reason to stop watching Netflix is if it triggers cravings for popcorn and other midnight snacks. That’s a hard habit to break: snacking while watching a movie or a Netflix series. And those snacks may start with popcorn and diet soda, and move on to coffee and a croissant, sikwate and suman with the sweetest mango, peanuts and orange juice, choco sundae and French fries, and then green tea to help digest them.
For a while there, I ate the free popcorn at SM’s Director’s Club despite my low-carb diet because what a waste of a freebie if I didn’t eat it. Since I’ve learned to imagine the carbs’ side effects, with the realization that I don’t want to deal with them anymore, I can now avoid the popcorn and all the other carbs that will always be around for as long as rice remains as a staple food in Pinas.
Carbs are everywhere, avoiding it is like going through an obstacle course that has snakes. In this Year of the Snake, that’s the most appropriate comparison, eh?
Since snakes are allowed in the carnivore diet, the snake-eater may love that obstacle course, and won’t have to avoid them.
