OKTOBERFEST here in Pinas may mean the filing of Certificates of Candidacy. Better that than drinking the night away and having a hangover for, hmmm, at least three days—that’s for the senior moment.
For the junior moment, there’s no hangover at all. Drink the night away, go home at 6 am to get dressed for the office, work like a zombie from 9 am to 5 pm, repeat.
If his job description includes putting signs at a construction site in Cagayan de Oro’s uptown area, most probably he’s the one who prepared this: “Wanted: Dumtruck Driver.”
That’s the same uptown area where each time a helicopter is flying low over our house, I’m always tempted to ask, Who’s there? The girlfriend of a former president? The ex-favorite contractor? A Manila-based CEO visiting his CDO minions?
Since the uptown area is home to some bigwigs, it’s possible that the helicopter owner or renter is a Cagayanon who wants to maintain a low profile. Yeah, woe to those who can’t afford to buy a helicopter or at least rent one and annoy his neighbors by flying in and out of his backyard.
Don’t worry, be happy, though, because a helicopter is not the only way to have a bird’s-eye view of CDO. In case you’re the Cagayanon who has been hibernating under a rock in the last few weeks, here’s the latest news on CDO’s transportation situation: it has finally evolved to solving the city’s traffic woes. And one of the solutions is—tsan tsan tsa ran—cable cars. Easier to install I guess, compared to trains.
Since the cable cars are still a work-in-progress, the acrophobic can continue driving along Masterson Avenue so he can try the one-way experiment at the flyover area. That’s for those who are going downhill from 6 am to 8 am. Some moms who have to bring their kids to downtown schools are actually grateful for this new development as they have noticed the shorter drive through this one-way traffic scheme. Yay!
Choosing between cable cars and cars will eventually become a major challenge for the acrophobic who’s late for work. Which will make him arrive at the office on time? A helicopter, of course. Or a bullet train. Dream on. But his future choices will be: cable car or car. Savor the bird’s-eye view or stare at a car’s trunk while stuck in traffic.
Much like my diet that may sometimes be limited to two choices—bangus or Angus steak—after I’ve had enough of pork and eggs. But since steak is expensive, the bangus always wins.
Beef is the best choice, of course. Bulalo, ribeyes, T-bone steaks—yummiest!
I’m looking forward to the day when I see carbs and coffee and will order meat instead. And that day hasn’t arrived yet? Hmmm. Much like Mindanao’s railway system—hasn’t arrived yet.
The Facebook reels that have been appearing on my newsfeed are mostly carbs: cakes, cupcakes, cookies, ice cream, smoothies. I watched a carb reel and that prompted a great reveal from other carb reels. I waited for my sweet tooth to drool and order some carbs already, but that didn’t happen. Until I went face-to-face with a birthday cake. So, that became my Oktoberfest? Hmmm.
