GET ready for warmer days ahead.
The country is now seeing the transition to the dry season, said Luz Mercado, a weather specialist at the Mindanao station of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in El Salvador, Misamis Oriental.
Mercado said the transition period started last week when the wind directions changed.
She said the reason why it’s getting warmer is because the ice in countries like China started to melt and the Amihan stopped blowing.
“Mao na nga atong ma-experience ang kainit sa panahon kay ang hangin gikan naman sa Pacific Ocean,” Mercado said.
The easterlies, she said, would start going full blast by the end of February which means higher temperatures especially in the months of April.
By May, according to Mercado, the country would see another wind direction transition. The Southwest monsoon is seen to prevail until September.
At around 11 am Tuesday, the temperature in Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental was only 26.6 degrees Celsius. But on Monday, the temperature rose to 30.9 degrees during the same hour.
