THE breakup of Kim Chiu and Xian Lim didn’t affect the Pinoy’s Christmas partying and shopping. Which is kind of unfortunate for KimXi. The ho-hum response could mean their celebrity status is not as sparkly as that of KathNiel.
Leveling up to “in a relationship” in real life is the best thing that could ever happen to a loveteam and its PR team. It’s real now and not merely a figment in their fans’ imagination.
The PR team’s goal will also level up to keeping the relationship alive so the loveteam will continue to produce money for everyone dependent on its success.
But here’s hoping the Kathniel breakup will finally convince the Pinoy showbiz industry to put an end to loveteams that pressure the young ones to be in fake relationships. A showbiz career produces enough pressure already as someone younger can always take the place of the current lead star.
With loveteams out of the picture, young showbiz artists can then focus on developing their talents instead of focusing on a ka-loveteam. But when they’re pretending to love this ka-loveteam, they’re also practicing their acting skills. Is that a win-win?
Loveteams are like high school sweethearts who may end up marrying each other. Or not. With not as the greater probability.
And if you still love to talk about your exes, it’s time to assess your current relationship—perhaps you’d rather be with the past love than the current one otherwise you won’t be talking about exes.
Does this mean that whenever I reminisce about the 1986 People Power, I still prefer a yellow president over any other president? Hmmm. I think the question should be, do I still care?
I’ve reached that age where I’d rather read books than be aware of what’s happening at city hall, the provincial capitol, Malacanang, etc. Because those political colors will change in 2025, anyway.
Buti pa ang loveteam, it could last up to 11 years. Ang political color, hindi. Much like how Pantone changes the color of the year every year. For 2024, it’s peach fuzz. For 2025, the Cagayan de Oro politician can only wish it will be red, yellow, pink, green, orange, or violet. And Christmas 2024 is expected to be colorful as that will be the start of the candidates’ unofficial campaign.
Still, even if December 2023 was not part of the unofficial campaign period yet, it had its share of revenge Christmas parties paired with some revenge Christmas shopping since this was the first holiday season with the least restrictions post-pandemic.
There were long and winding lines at the cashiers and for these to make a huge comeback last month was a sign that the Philippine economy has begun to recover after the lockdowns.
But the Pinoy definitely noticed the silence—lesser firecrackers and fireworks especially on Christmas Eve. We thought people simply chose to save their money for the traditional New Year’s Eve noise. But New Year’s Eve arrived and it was still generally quiet. So, the loveteam breakups affected the celebrations after all. Haha.
The village did have its fireworks at 10 pm as usual, a tradition that temporarily stopped during the lockdowns.
