A joint operation by the Talisayan Municipal Police Station and the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 10 has led to the arrest of a woman suspected of running an illegal job recruitment scheme in Misamis Oriental's eastern region.
Major Joann Navarro, spokesperson for the Philippine National Police (PNP) Region 10, confirmed that the suspect, identified only as ‘Mae,’ was apprehended on Jan. 7 in Barangay Kalamkam, Talisayan.
Mae, a 31-year-old resident of Barangay 12, Gingoog City, was arrested on the strength of a warrant issued on June 25, 2024, for illegal recruitment under Republic Act No. 10022.
“She was arrested for fraudulent job recruitment, taking money for overseas job slots and deceiving many victims,” Navarro said.
The warrant, related to Criminal Case No. 40105-22M, carries a recommended bail of P72,000. Mae had previously been arrested in February 2024 for the same offense but was released on bail.
Talisayan Mayor Rico Taray urged residents to remain vigilant against illegal recruitment schemes and expressed gratitude to the police for their swift action.
In a statement, PNP Region 10 Director PBGen. Jaysen C. de Guzman commended the officers involved in the arrest.
“This arrest demonstrates our unwavering commitment to upholding the law and protecting our citizens from those who exploit and victimize others through illegal recruitment,” De Guzman said. “This serves as a warning to all those involved in such crimes: the long arm of the law will reach you.”
Mae is currently in the custody of the Talisayan Municipal Police Station, awaiting further legal proceedings.
