A MAGNITUDE 6.1 earthquake jolted Surigao del Norte yesterday afternoon. It was felt in other Mindanao areas, including in this city, and Visayas provinces.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tremor occurred at 2:43 pm, with its epicenter traced at 41 kilometers northeast of Burgos, Surigao del Norte.
Phivolcs said the tremor was felt at Intensity 5 in Surigao City; Siargao Island; Talacogon, Agusan del Sur; Carrascal, and Surigao del Sur; Intensity 4 in Dinagat Island; Intensity 3 felt in San Juan, Southern Leyte; Tacloban City; Palo, Leyte; and Lapu-lapu City; and Intensity 2 in Bislig, Surigao del Sur; Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur; and Davao City.
Phivolcs said the quake, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of 30 kilometers. There was no casualty or damage reported from the temblor but aftershocks were expected, the agency said.
