AFTER a long weekend, Monday being another added holiday, Tuesday was a sight of heavy traffic. In our barangay, I came home about 5:30 in the afternoon amid a heavy traffic of huge cargo trucks. Luckily, there were RTA enforcers already manning the traffic. It didn’t take long for me to negotiate inside our narrow lane toward our house. I thought, I need to assist with my newly acquired CDO-CRCD vest. I commend the four RTA enforcers who worked until seven o’clock in the evening. We parted ways in an already “hapsay” street of Gaabucayan. It was a job well done. I would like to make this appeal to the management of Solid Shipping. It happens all the time that traffic comes to a standstill when a truck or prime-mover with a container van is going to enter its container yard. The truck cannot just turn left turn when the approaching traffic is heavy. I talked to their guards last week to negotiate a helping hand that when they see the traffic heavy and knowing a truck with a container van is about to enter the yard, they should assist by stopping the approaching vehicles to give way to the entering vehicles. After all, they, too, will suffer the inconvenience of a traffic jam. The manager of Solid Shipping, Mar Ybañez, is a former co-Williner. I guess I should make this appeal directly to him if he ever came to read this. •• A video posted on Facebook by Catherine Gapuz-Miego raises for the nth time the question on why children are more attached to mothers despite the fact that fathers not only usually bring home the bacon but also attend to their other responsibilities piously. I could only think of one reason. Mothers have the advantage of being with the children nine months ahead of fathers. The bond with mothers started during conception. Should fathers be envious? Not at all! Children love their parents differently just as parents love their children in variable degrees. There will always be that “Mama’s boy or Papa’s girl” syndrome in the family. Still, that video is a wake-up call for those who seem to have forgotten the existence of their parents in their pursuit of their career and a happy life or when they’re so engrossed of their work that nothing anymore matters but their job. At the end of the day, it will always be the parents who will ask, “Have you eaten already?” Only then do we realize they exist and how much time is lost with them. When was the last time you have dinner with your mom? When was the last time you invited her to eat out? When was the last time you hugged her? These are just a few questions asked. And then you just realized, tears are already rolling down your cheek. •• Former councilor Dulce Ytem has asked me to help form a pro-Duterte group in the city. He believes Duterte can be a good President of our Republic. Well, many do, and there are already a few who are into it. To form a new one and recruit is a tough job. But with his experience, he believes he can do it. Duterte’s popularity is being downplayed by some as a result of the Cagayan de Oro caravan one Saturday. But I believe Duterte will run and win the elections. Like I already said, the moment Duterte declares his candidacy, many from other political parties will follow him.
