TALISAYAN Mayor Rico Taray urged the Municipal Social Work and Development (MSWD) office to consistently focus on single parents, especially those who are facing hardships and are unable to send their children to school.

Mayor Taray made this call during his brief address at the Solo Parents Assembly held at the Town Hall conference room on November 7.

“Their situation should receive adequate attention,” he said.

Taray also noted that Governor Peter Unabia shares the same wish to support single parents throughout the province and called on the MSWD to secure sufficient funds to assist solo or single parents.

However, Taray pointed out that Republic Act No. 11861, known as the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act, offers additional benefits to single parents nationwide.

“This law is a significant aid to single parents,” he added.

Icy Capagngan, Municipal Focal Person for Solo Parents, mentioned during the general assembly of single parents that guidance was provided on how to manage their livelihood while taking care of their children.

Currently, only 46 single parents have applied and are eligible for benefits under RA 11861, but it is expected that this number will increase in the coming days.
