THIS resolve to avoid carbs would have been unthinkable when I was still in my pre-carnivore days and in the low-carb diet that allowed keto goodies, diet soda, and sugar-free anything. Which was my transition phase that lasted for more than two years, until my blood pressure finally started complaining amidst the confusion on my diet’s goals. I could almost hear my blood pressure ask, Ano ba talaga, Net? Make up your mind!

So, I made up my mind. Carnivore it is. Good luck na lang? Hmmm.

This is the diet that gives me control over my food choices as I continue to learn about what works for my health. Whenever people tell me that I should stop dieting and even moderate my workouts because I’m already slim, I wonder if they want me to be fat again, and to have more maintenance meds. Because that’s how it was when I was still in a high-carb diet and was not exercising.

For now, the gym has an ongoing competition called the Evolt 360 Challenge, or the Transformation Challenge which some gym friends have joined.

The Evolt can be the gym’s most dreaded equipment as it monitors body weight, body fat percentage, bio age, etc. In other words, gym friends would rather deadlift twice their body weight if that could serve as an excuse not to step on the Evolt.

The challenge includes monitoring the before-and-after body fat percentage, the highest number of reps in one minute for pushups, the longest time for a plank, and other fitness challenges.

I have at least two excuses why I wasn’t able to join the challenge: I didn’t check my email where the challenge notice was sent; I didn’t read the little poster taped to the rest room wall right above the water dispenser which is usually where officemates were expected to meet and gossip once upon a time. But with Messenger as the new venue for gossip, the water dispenser is simply for refilling water bottles now.

Besides, we’re not officemates but gym classmates, we’d rather stay on the gym floor before the Zumba class where space can be territorial, short of peeing on the floor to ensure we have secured enough territory for us to Zumba around. And we stand near machines and equipment in between sets to save them for the gym-ing. Which may make the gym sound like there’s no more space for non-members but there’s always enough space for everyone.

The gym recently had a Happy Halloween open house, meaning we were allowed to invite guests. But I have only one friend who loves to work out. The others prefer walking. And my niece-in-law’s family owns a gym where she works out, of course. And there’s the uptown-downtown traffic to be always considered. The uptowner will go to the uptown gym. The downtowner will go to the downtown gym. That’s how it is.

What’s fun about the gym’s events is our gym classmates do follow the dress code. And there’s always a fitness challenge.
