MISAMIS Oriental Governor Peter M. Unabia showcased significant achievements during his inaugural State of the Province Address (Sopa) on January 12, held at the provincial capitol grounds.
In his address, Gov. Unabia emphasized the substantial progress made in the province over the 560 days of his administration, underscoring advancements in key sectors such as social services, health, agriculture, education, and tourism through his flagship program ‘Paglaum.’
Proudly presenting his accomplishments, Unabia highlighted the allocation of P130 million from last year’s budget for the improvement and repair of eight provincial hospital buildings. He also noted the ongoing rehabilitation of the Talisayan Misamis Oriental Provincial Hospital in Talisayan town.
Unabia expressed his desire for all eight hospitals in the province to enhance their facilities, ensuring access to CT scans, modern laboratory equipment, and an increase in medical personnel.
He also shared his goal of elevating the hospitals in the province to Level II, a move that would eliminate the need for patients to travel to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center, as stated by Talisayan town Vice Mayor Rommel Maslog.
Chairing the committee of the infrastructure of the Regional Development Council (RDC), Maslog credited Misamis Oriental as a key player in the expansion and conversion of Laguindingan Airport into an international airport.
Unabia’s priority program also encompasses the development of Sipaka Tourism in Talisayan, including the establishment of zip lines, as highlighted by Talisayan town Mayor Rico Taray.
Notably, Unabia shed light on upcoming developments, including the construction of high-rise buildings on provincial-owned properties in Cagayan de Oro through a joint venture with the E. Brown Corporation. He expressed gratitude to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan for approving the joint venture.
During his tenure, Unabia initiated a study to strengthen the bamboo industry in the province, with plans to introduce modern technology to bamboo processing plants.
Acknowledging the collaborative nature of these endeavors, Unabia emphasized the involvement of various stakeholders in achieving these milestones.
In an interview, Provincial Administrator John Venice Ladaga disclosed that Unabia is actively addressing the rise of problems related to early pregnancy in Misamis Oriental.
