SOME P900 million has been earmarked for the upgrading of the First Misamis Oriental General Hospital in Medina located in the eastern part of the province.

Misamis Oriental Governor Peter Unabia, during the groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday, October 15, said P130 million has already been set aside to kickstart construction works of a 6-storey hospital building.

He said the second tranche of P150 million pesos will be released next year, with the funds already allocated in the General Appropriation Act (GAA).

Governor Unabia said the hospital project is through the efforts of Congressman Christian Unabia of the province’s 1st Congressional District. Congressman Unabia is the son of the Misamis Oriental governor.

Congressman Unabia thanked Congressman Yevgeny Vincente ‘Bambi’ Emano of the 2nd District for his collaboration in allocating the P900 million pesos.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including Assistant Secretary Paolo Teston of the Department of Health, Lilibeth N. Aparecio, regional director of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-10), and other officials.

Governor Unabia said the expansion is expected to significantly improve healthcare services in Medina town and the surrounding areas.

He said the current hospital has a limited capacity of only 28 beds which will be increased to 103 beds once construction is complete.

Dr. Napoleon Ray Talines, the hospital chief, thanked Congressman Unabia for making the project a reality.

Dr. Talines said the new hospital building will be the biggest hospital throughout the province and is expected to be equipped with modern facilities.

The project is also expected to reduce overcrowding at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) in Cagayan de Oro City as the hospital will be able to provide quality healthcare services for the people in the eastern part of
