Young gymnasts from Cagayan de Oro made a strong mark in Davao City, winning 56 medals at the 2nd Madayaw Gymnastics Cup held Aug. 21–22 at the Ayala Malls Abreeza Activity Center.

The XU Ateneo de Cagayan Gymnastics Club returned home with 32 gold, 21 silver and three bronze medals in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG), showcasing the club’s depth across several age groups.

The competition was held as part of Davao City’s annual Kadayawan Festival celebration.

CDO gymnasts dominate

Caitlin Estrell B. Almirante and Zahari Amelia L. Enerio led the CDO contingent with standout performances, sweeping all four apparatus events in their respective divisions.

Almirante topped the Individual All-Around (IAA) standings in the Australian Level Program (ALP) Level 2, 10-year-old category.

She won gold in the balance beam, uneven bars, floor exercise and vault.

Enerio also went unbeaten across the four apparatus events, earning second-place IAA honors in the ALP Level 1, 1–7 age division.

Other CDO gymnasts also delivered podium finishes.

Elisha Kim B. Cas placed fourth in the IAA in the ALP Level 1, 8-year-old division after winning gold in the balance beam, floor exercise and vault, and silver in the uneven bars.

Zephyr Karlie V. Nuñez finished sixth in the IAA in the ALP Level 2, 11-and-above division.

She collected gold medals in the beam, floor and vault, along with a silver in the uneven bars.

Young athletes fill CDO medal haul

The club’s medal run extended across multiple age brackets, with Julianne Kursten L. Empleo, Irelia Felicity L. Abalo, Lorraine Elizabeth M. Basilio, Therese Lalaine I. Roque and Freida Myca R. Tan joining the ALP Level 2 field.

The ALP Level 1 delegation included Sabrina Martine M. Ansaldo in the older age bracket, while Rhia Grace B. Landar, Elizabeth N. Albarece and Zoe Alline C. Bacol competed in the 7-year-old division alongside Enerio.
