CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY— Two former food suppliers of the New People's Army (NPA) voluntarily surrendered to authorities in Talakag, Bukidnon, turning over their firearms and formally renouncing their support for the armed group, the Police Regional Office-10 (PRO-10) said.
The surrender took place on Monday, July 20. Police identified the two only by their aliases "Mama," 26, and "Maria," 27, both farmers who, according to authorities, served as food suppliers for Platoon Fury of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee from 2016 to 2022.
As part of their surrender, the two turned over a caliber .45 pistol with two rounds of ammunition and an improvised shotgun with two 12-gauge shotgun shells.
Police said the former supporters decided to leave the armed movement after realizing it had weakened and after seeing many of their relatives return to government programs.
The two are now under police custody for debriefing and profiling, while the surrendered firearms are undergoing documentation and processing.
Brig. Gen. Christopher N. Abrahano, PRO-10 regional director, said the surrender demonstrates the continuing impact of the government's efforts to encourage former NPA members and supporters to return to civilian life.
The Philippine government has designated the NPA as a terrorist organization, while security forces often refer to it as part of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG).
