By LITO RULONA, and NICOLE MANAGBANAG, Correspondents CAMP VICENTE Alagar will not leave Oplan Tokhang responders to battle their substance abuse problems alone but will help the drug suspects get a new lease in life with a newly created camp-based drug rehabilitation program. Alagar spokesperson Supt. Surki Sereñas said the initiative was introduced by CDO-Pathway to Recovery Foundation, Inc., with concerned barangays and Police Regional Office 10, as active partners. “An orientation about the project dubbed as ‘Recovery and Wellness Program for Tokhang Responders’ will be held today. After the orientation, those who decide to join the program will have to signify their willingness for them to be included in the first batch of the Cadre Program,” he added. A rehabilitation program is one of Dangerous Drug Board Barangay Clearing Operation’s requisites in declaring a certain barangay “drug free.” “We have accounted more than 78,000 (Tokhang responders) in northern Mindanao comprising 12% of the national surrenderers and we’re not going to leave them just like that,” Chief Supt. Noel Constantino said. In a press statement, Constantino said they will be embarking on a drug rehabilitation project dubbed as “Cadre Program: Life After Tokhang” which they plan to launch on Nov. 16 at the Regional Headquarters in Camp Alagar, Barangay Lapasan, this city. Cadre stands for Camp-based Drug Rehabilitation Program –– a 90-day drug rehabilitation program which will be facilitated by trained professionals and will cater to the drug dependents identified during the PNP’s Oplan Tokhang. The project will eventually be launched in the provincial and city police offices regionwide and it will be free of charge. “We have to give our all out support for this project for it to succeed,” Constantino said while emphasizing its importance to the new anti-illegal drugs campaign strategy, the Project Double Barrel-Alpha. “It is not just our duty as mandated by the PNP, but also our moral responsibility to provide the much-needed support they need to live a drug-free and productive lives,” Constantino said.
