The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro is calling on the faithful to join a march this Wednesday, Feb. 25, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.
Fr. Der John Faborada, head of the archdiocesan media center, said Jose Cabantan will lead the mobilization.
The march will begin at 1 p.m. at the Misamis Oriental Provincial Capitol and proceed to Gaston Park, in front of the Saint Augustine Metropolitan Cathedral, where a Eucharistic Mass will be celebrated by Cabantan.
“We encourage our parishioners to remember the courage of those who participated in the EDSA Revolution. We must show that we remain committed to that dream,” Faborada said.
A separate rally organized by the Promotion of Church People’s Response in Northern Mindanao is also scheduled on Wednesday.
The local call for civic participation follows a Feb. 17 pastoral letter from the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines urging citizens to take concrete action against systemic political corruption.
