Ruffy Magbanua IF we have to consider vehicular traffic as one kind of economic indicators, then Cagayan de Oro would easily qualify, even gets a high mark among the country’s highly urbanized cities, maybe at par with Cebu’s or Davao’s. This is Cagayan de Oro today, growing by leaps and bounds in almost all corners of the city as it enjoys a titanic economic boom in both vertical and horizontal infra, but not without its downsides. In fact, the city has rocketed to greater heights in the past five years in  terms of infra, human capital and  transpo, among others, at a level so unprecedented and even phenomenal. There are no arguments on the matter of CDO’s economic boom.  A thunderous cheers on that. What exactly matters most--and  pressing at that--is the state of the city’s cluttered traffic. It is now fast becoming a bane to the city’s indomitable growth and the sustained peace it enjoys 24/7. And on top of the swelling traffic problem is lawyer Egay Uy, a no-nonsense guy I know pretty well way back from his Cepalco days. With the recent unfortunate and painful event that claimed one of his trusted aides, motorists are ever expectant to see Egay’s lament turn into an exacting challenge to enforce law and order in the streets to the hilt. Perhaps, the most ideal to carry out Egay’s herculean task would be: dynamic, emphatic, weighty and straight-forward. No excuses, no favor or no exceptions to the rule. A tall order? Definitely, yes, and Egay needs a hand badly this time. What is needed that could perhaps result in an effective and sustainable management of the city’s traffic is putting more teeth into it. Not just blunt pairs of teeth, but sharp, penetrating and forceful, and even hurtful at times. Moreover, pedestrian discipline and unnecessary obstructions make CDO’s traffic messy and annoying. Egay knows this pretty well. Regardless of who controls city hall, this city of almost a million is caught by a storm of progress, no doubt about it. And like it or not, in three to four years, it will become a metropolis like Cebu and Davao. This early, Egay might be nursing a migraine. Keep your cool, man. Call a friend, and count me in. A cup of steaming coffee awaits you. The late Steve Jobs said that because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.  Cheers!   E-mail: ruffy44_ph2000@yahoo.com
