The civil wedding of Vincent Co and Bea Alonzo at the Makati City Hall on July 13, 2026, was a minimalist's dream wedding.
Officiated by Mayor Nancy Binay, it had no frills, no famous ninong and ninang who could inadvertently steal the show, no towering wedding cake, no grand church and reception entrances, no bonggang-bonggang decors, no celebrity guests, no wedding photographer.
The focus was only on the couple and their love—fingers crossed—for each other.
And Alonzo did her own makeup!
The photos were taken by her friend and business partner, Brina Secosana. If the surname sounds familiar, Brina is the co-founder of the Pinoy bag brand Secosana along with her sister whose name happens to be Bea, too. The sisters’ partnership with Alonzo is for their travel essentials business, BASH Manila.
My one big wish for Alonzo was for her to have a happily ever after with John Lloyd Cruz, who was Popoy to her Basha in the 2007 movie “One More Chance.” And there’s Basha’s famous line: “Sana ako pa rin. Ako na lang. Ako na lang ulit.” And she’s definitely Co’s “Ako na lang” now.
Now that Alonzo is married, that wedding I was wishing for her and Lloydie has morphed from “one more chance” to the Bisaya’s “wa chance.”
Lloydie has been my Pinoy actor idol for so long, and being an avid fan, I believed Alonzo could be his perfect wife. And that’s because I know them only as celebrities but not as real people. I mean, I’ve never met them, we don’t have lunches and dinners together, we don’t meet at parties. My only common denominator with them is “One More Chance.” Plus its 2015 sequel, “A Second Chance.”
There’s also the Philippine Educational Theater Association’s (PETA) “One More Chance, The Musical” at the PETA Theater Center in 2024 featuring Ben&Ben’s songs, but I didn’t get to watch that.
Let’s see if Co and Alonzo will be tempted to have a grand church wedding in the future somewhere in Europe. Alonzo happens to own a luxury apartment in Madrid, Spain. Surely Co has his own mansions too somewhere over the rainbow. And his family owns 50 percent of a 250-hectare winery and estate in Andalusia, Spain.
There’s a prenuptial agreement, of course. Co is a billionaire—Puregold and all that golden jazz. And Alonzo has her own assets amassed through her successful showbiz career. Separate bank accounts, anyone?
In contrast, the wedding of Taylor Swift and American football player Travis Kelce on July 3, 2026 was bonggang-bongga to the max. It was held at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, New York, with 1,000 guests that included celebrities and famous personalities from all sorts of industries—music, sports, showbiz, etc. It was officiated by Adam Sandler. Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks, Avril Lavigne, Fergie, and other music artists performed. McCartney singing “I Want to Hold Your Hand.” How about that, huh?
The Garden’s floor became a garden. There was no wedding cake but a dessert station had several cakes, cookies, pastries, and other sweets—in other words, a feast for the high-carb dieter.
And phones were banned. Guests were required to sign non-disclosure agreements. I’m guessing that the Kelce-Swift prenuptial agreement could be more complicated than that of Co and Alonzo.
