CLASSES in all public and private schools at all levels in Gingoog City are suspended today, Nov. 10, due to the threat of Super Typhoon Uwan, Mayor Erick G. Cañosa announced.
Mayor Cañosa posted the suspension notice on his Facebook page at about 4 pm Sunday (Nov. 9).
“As a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and welfare of all students, and in view of the threats of heavy rainfall and strong winds brought by super typhoon uwan,” Mayor Cañosa said.
The city also implemented a preemptive evacuation of residents living near coastal areas Sunday evening, as the storm threatened a high rise of water.
“Let us remain vigilant and prepared, and monitor official announcements to ensure the safety and well-being of all,” he added in his announcement.
Meanwhile, the Misamis Oriental II Rural Electric Service Cooperative (MORESCO II), based in Medina, Misamis Oriental province, issued a public advisory regarding the weather conditions brought by Typhoon Uwan.
The cooperative posted the warning on its Facebook account at around 11:30 am Sunday, Nov. 9.
The advisory urged residents to stay away from areas near power lines and power poles to avoid injury from possible falling or broken poles. The public was also warned to avoid accidents by treating all hanging wires — whether electrical or telephone — as “live wires.”
