ON Tuesday, August 8, Gaston Park was a scene of jubilant festivity as Mayor Rolando 'Klarex' Uy led the opening of 'Fiesta sa Kaumahan 2023'.
"The event saw enthusiastic participation from not less than 67 farmers, gardeners, and exhibitors from the city," said City Mayor's Office Shiela Lumbatan.
Lumbatan said In Mayor Uy's message, underscored the significance of agriculture to our community and economy, calling it one of his key priority programs, alongside education and health services.
"What would the people do without our farmers?" the mayor said, emphasizing the critical role they play.
Lumbatan said the mayor also assured that he would meet with the heads of the Agricultural Productivity Operations Office (APOO), led by Engr. Paterno Gonzales, to find a suitable location where the city's farmers can sell their produce regularly, whether monthly or weekly.
Following this, Lumbatan said the mayor encouraged the public to support the farmers by visiting Gaston Park and purchasing a variety of products such as fruits, vegetables, delicacies, and many more local products.
City Councilors Imee Moreno, Suzette Magtajas-Daba, Girlie Balaba, Jay Roa Pascual, who chairs the agriculture and tourism committee, and James Judith, who represented Vice Mayor Jocelyn Rodriguez, as well as various department managers from city hall, attended the event.
'Fiesta sa Kaumahan' will be celebrated throughout August as one of the core events of Higalaay Festival 2023, in conjunction with the Feast of St. Augustine, Lumbatan said.
