KOREAN Ambassador to the Philippines, Inchul Kim visited the regional Agriculture department’s Smart Greenhouse project at the northern Mindanao Agricultural Crops and Livestock Research Complex (NMACLRC) on March 22.
The 11 units of smart greenhouses have a total project cost of P70.253 million, which is seen to help local farmers in producing high-value crops such as tomatoes, strawberries, pepper, and potato using smart farming technologies.
Earlier, DA-10 regional technical director for Operations Carlota S. Madriaga said, this project strengthens the partnership and friendship between the Philippines and Korean governments.
After being formally inaugurated in April last year, the ambassador inspected the project to ensure its implementation and utilization.
DA-10 is now using the P100 million Korean-Philippine-funded project as a smart farming demonstration and research facility to showcase strawberry, cherry tomato, and white potato production in a fully automated greenhouse.
In a discussion, DA-10 Regional Field Office Technical Director for Research and Regulations Cora A. Dumayaca reported with the ambassador's delegates that the agency has been hosting trainings for numerous farmers and agricultural extensions in an effort to promote Korean smart farming technology in the region.
“The agency is working on making capsule technology that fits the budgets of local farmers so that they can adopt and copy Korean technology,” she said.
DA-10 regional executive director Carlene C. Collado welcomed the Korean delegates and led them on a tour of the 11 state-of-the-art smart greenhouses, along with DA-10 smart greenhouse project manager Lucille T. Minguez and NMACLRC chief Carmelito R. Lapoot.
Kim was impressed with the project's implementation and advised regional agri department to keep optimizing the Smart Greenhouse operation. (With a report from DA-10/PIA-10/Bukidnon)
