APPARENTLY, Mocha Uson, a well-known Duterte supporter, found herself in a bind recently for posting numerous fictitious contents on her “Mocha Uson Blog” Facebook page. A concerned netizen named Paul Quilet on Change.Org sought to shut her blog down.
“I have never seen someone divide our country so much since the time of Marcos. The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing,” Quilet said of his petition that has gathered more than 30,000 signatures.
And then it hit me. Yes, Mocha is posting a lot of information that many may not have knowledge of because the mainstream media either did not feature it or did, but was not really highlighted as much as some people wanted too.
However, Mocha is also posting false information, causing Filipinos confusion because of how she presents, twists and fabricates information. Her blog has become a venue for comparison of news.
I have to agree with Quilet on this one, simply because it divides this country even more, and instead of being one nation one race, it is now divided.
Here is how trolls operate to create riffs in our country. Example: so-called yellow trolls create an issue, lays down the foundation by commenting on it themselves using other accounts, then shares it to as many people as possible. Meanwhile, Duterte supporters react to it negatively, and comments will be exchanged. Lastly, selfighteous trolls and self-proclaimed attorneys join the fray. It’s the same pattern of how Duterte’s trolls operate.
It sparks word wars till someone complains to Facebook and asks to bring down the post, but it’s too late because the damage has been done.
Some will disagree with Duterte and others will. That is life, but blogs like Mocha’s, are only adding fuel to the flame. The stories she tells are twisted. She should stick to her real blog that gave her fame in the first place. Yah! I know the one on Youtube where she teaches you something. (Evil grin.)
Most of her blog posts were copied from the mainstream media with a twist just to make it engaging, enough to trigger those gullible supporters to sway them to her side and start bashing the other camp. It only promotes trolling, hate, violence and divides us as a nation.
As a result, the other camp’s trolls will not take her arrogant posts sitting down and so, they will also create, they will also troll. It’s a never-ending cycle.
We can all look forward to six years of this social media chaos.
Nevertheless, she is entitled to her freedom of speech and expression. All of us are. But as a celebrity, her words carry more weight compared to us regular folks, what more the President of a country.
I will let Quilet end this piece: “Everyone is free to express what they want. But problems arise when this fundamental right is used to manipulate and condition the public, when it is exploited to serve anyone’s purpose, when it is used as a shield against accountability.”
Abusar pa more!
