THE National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has announced that electricity bills for April 2025 are experiencing a significant rise due to increased Ancillary Service (AS) charges.
AS charges surged by 16.05% in the March 2025 billing period, reaching P0.8094/kWh, up from P0.6975/kWh in February.
This rise is attributed to the third tranche of the settlement for the remaining 70% AS cost from the Reserve Market for March 2024, previously deferred by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).
Ancillary Services are essential for balancing and stabilizing the grid during supply-demand fluctuations.
NGCP clarified that while the company charges consumers 55 centavos per kWh for its delivery services, the majority of transmission costs are passed directly to AS providers, benefiting only generating companies.
Transmission wheeling rates also saw a slight increase of 4.81%, rising from P0.5252/kWh in February to PhP0.5505/kWh in March.
Overall transmission charges for March 2025 now stand at P1.5240/kWh, an 11.51% increase from February’s P1.3668/kWh.
