THE Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ) kicked off its 4th National Investigative Journalism Conference (IJCon 2025) today, November 13, in Quezon City, Metro Manila. More than a hundred journalists from across the Philippines are participating.
Conference focus, theme
This year’s conference, themed “Speaking Truth to Power, Adapting to Change,” will feature plenary sessions and workshops. Discussions will cover topics ranging from lessons learned in investigating corruption in flood control projects to how journalists can ethically harness AI to enhance investigative reporting.
Journalists see opportunity in AI
Menzie Montes, News Director of iFM-RMN-dxCC based in Cagayan de Oro City, expressed her enthusiasm for the event.
“This opportunity is (once in) a lifetime. As a broadcast journalist, I need to deepen my understanding, especially as AI is fast flooding the internet world,” Montes said.
She pointed out the need for news directors to explain to their listeners that AI should be used as a tool, not a source.
Gold Star Daily participation
The Gold Star Daily News is also participating in this year’s IJCon to enhance the capability of its reporters and editor in news writing and storytelling.
Several veteran journalists are expected to share their knowledge with fellow journalists during the three-day conference.
