MISAMIS Oriental Philippines Jinjiang Chamber of Commerce Incorporated was committed to prioritizing post-pandemic recovery efforts following its first induction of officers which was held here on Sunday.
The induction rite was even held with the People’s Republic of China (PROC) Davao City Vice Consul Lia Quian and Cagayan De Oro City Councilor George Goking as special guests.
Goking, the chair of the city council's committee on Trade and Commerce and Ways and Means said the Jinjiang Chamber discussed ways to speed up the city and province’s economic recovery from the pandemic.
“I thank our friends from the Philippine Jinjiang General Association, Inc., Misamis Oriental Provincial Chapter for trusting and helping the city government for sharing their ideas to speed up our economic recovery from the pandemic,” Goking said.
During the induction of officers, Goking said the Jinjiang Chamber pitched to Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy, the city's ideas to realize the administration’s bid to revitalize and transform the economy.
Goking also thanked the chamber for the plaque of appreciation he received for heeding mayor Uy’s “Rise” framework: regionalization and metropolization; institutional development; security and safety; and economic recovery and sustainability.
“Under the administration of Mayor Uy call to take the said framework (Rise) to accelerate the city’s economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, the Jinjiang chamber led by its president Cai Shao Hua expressed their profound gratitude for Goking's unwavering support of the association.
The Jinjiang also earlier expressed support for Goking's economic recovery plans in the city.
To revitalize the economy, the city government will implement programs to achieve sound fiscal management, Goking said in his reply to the chamber.
He also emphasized the need to push for tax administration reforms, as well as realign expenditure priorities and improve spending efficiency.
The mayor (Uy) also sought the promotion of “productivity-enhancing” investments and to make the city an investment destination in Mindanao.
The city government of Cagayan de Oro vowed to continue implementing “metropolization” projects to pump the economy and accelerate its economic recovery efforts.
“As we look back (to the campaign platforms of Uy), it is a development agenda for the medium-term development plan and annual investment plan,” he said.
Since 2018, the local government's metropolization projects included the P186-million development, operation, and maintenance of the city’s sanitary landfill; P200 million in shelter program; and P9 million support for projects and programs of non-government agencies under the people empowerment programs of the city’s Poverty Reduction Action Center.
During his first week in office, Uy issued a memorandum providing guidelines on the city government's tax amnesty program, including real property taxes.
The memorandum also covered conditions for individual or business owners on how to avail of the tax amnesty, which will last until Dec. 31, 2023.
