A RECOVERING knee has to choose the places, events, parties, appointments, and meetings it goes to. Like a recovering addict, I guess, who can’t go back to the friends he used to have sessions with, and the neighborhoods he used to have sessions in. Those familiar faces and places could trigger a relapse, and there he goes again, back to the rollercoaster ride: drugs, rehab, drugs, rehab...
Good thing for the Senate, it has Sen. Manny Pacquiao to say, “Mr. President, I move that the chairmanship and members(hip) of the committee on justice be declared vacant.” His reason for the ouster: “Gusto po natin na ang committee ay para sa taong bayan, hindi lang pangsarili.”
In case you have been hibernating in one of Pokemon Go’s Gyms in the last few weeks, the justice committee chair at that time was the lady senator whose surname rhymes with dilemma. Had she been allowed to stay long in that position, the bigger dilemma she would probably inflict in her fight against extrajudicial killings.
And when we say position, we’re referring to her position in the Senate and not in the sex video that allegedly stars her.
Have you seen that video, by the way? Some people did. But they’re saying her face was kind of blurred. Hmmm. Photoshop, anyone? You probably personally know at least one person whose sex video somehow ended up released to the whole world, and he still lived to tell the tale. It’s definitely not the end of the world for him. With all the s**t we have to deal with daily, will people even care to remember that video a year from now?
There’s this poster where the lasagna-loving Garfield is desperately clinging to a tree branch while rabid dogs are about to devour his butt. This prompts his thought bubble to say, “50 years from now, I’ll look back to this, and laugh.”
For me, it could be 30 years. But I’m not laughing, though. I’m smiling, filled with much gratitude, for the memory is not that of rabid dogs about to devour my mile-wide butt.
Each learning experience has a lesson to teach us and most of the time, it takes us years to see the lesson. For me, it’s patience. The patience to wait. I may not look like the typical person gifted with a lot of patience, but I do know how to wait. Unless the scenario is starting to resemble the one that the Senate was in recently, no thanks to the dilemma senator. Allegedly, reportedly, supposedly a smear campaign, shame campaign, sham campaign. To lead the rabid dogs’ fangs to another butt.
With Sen. Pacquiao delivering the punch to knock her out, other Senate committees are finally given the chance to devour her, uh, ah…
The country’s incumbent president is not the kind you can threaten with anything. He may allow you to act like a rabid dog for a while, probably amused with the Jollibee and McDonald’s memes that the hearing produced. But forcing him to stop through the hearing on extrajudicial killings must be like forcing Garfield to forget lasagna. And make the foodie-cat switch to Chicken Joy and Big Mac?
Those hearings may have been cut short, thanks to Sen. Pacquiao’s motion, but we now wonder if dilemma and her posse have other rabid dogs to be released to the world to convince the madlang pehpohl that these are dangerous times we live in.
In a Philippine Daily Inquirer piece I read recently, at least one Pinoy said he now feels safe with his cell phone while inside a jeepney because the drug addicts who used to snatch cell phones are now afraid to leave their caves. But their fear for snatchers has been replaced by their fear of shootouts between cops and drug users/pushers, where any bystander could end up as collateral damage.
Gosh. There seems no end for the fearsome Pinoy. Afraid to report government officials who are making the national treasury disappear, afraid to report government officials who are asking for commissions, afraid to report the government official whose commissions are resulting to inferior infrastructure. It’s the me-first attitude at its worst.
But there’s always the Pinoy with a big mouth that can’t stop talking--he’s the best witness in any hearing, if only he tells the truth and nothing but the truth. The problem with these bigmouths, though, is they tend to embellish the truth, until you yourself are not sure anymore of what you saw.
The bigmouth hopes another person’s s**t will overpower the stench of his own s**t. But using another person as amusement can only boomerang on the bigmouth who has been spreading the story. Makes us hope Sen. Pacquiao will be there to punch the s**t out of these bigmouths.
People tell stories all the time, and there you are, thinking, What is wrong with these people? Can’t they keep their mouth shut even for a second? But without them, how could Tokhang continue knocking on doors? It’s through the storyteller, whether he’s telling the truth or lying through his teeth, that drugelated cases are somehow solved.
“Tokhang” has moved forward to knocking on the gates of gated villages in other cities. There’s a possibility of drug addicts and drug lords hiding in these villages, thus, the knocking on their gates. Well, it’s more like pressing doorbell buttons, with a warm welcome from high-maintenance dogs.
But a drug addict believes in the saying, If there’s a will, there’s a way. Until supplies last? Oh, well. It’s back to the chicken-and-egg story again.
