Netnet Camomot WE were lining up for concert tickets when Ronnie Dayan appeared at the congressional hearing last Thursday. The only time the huge tote bag has headphones is when I remember to bring them with me during travels. But the rest of the year, they hibernate with a Shuffle. Thus, had to put my left ear next to the mobile’s teeny weeny sound system to listen to the hearing’s Facebook Live coverage. And that’s while watching “The Jungle Book.” The real estate developer’s office near the cinema has a comfy couch that faces a TV set. Between that and standing outside the cinema for concert tickets, anyone would choose the comfy couch. So, there I was, asking if I could sit there for a while. The developer’s staff said yes. And the rest is history. They were watching “The Jungle Book.” I asked if they could switch to the hearing. The reply was no—not allowed by their management. Well, who wants to buy real estate while watching bad news? Of course, a movie is the obvious choice, as long as they’re not showing “Psycho.” There are characters in the drug-menace hearings that are probably morphing into psychos by now, and they need to be asked, Are you drugs? The issue is supposed to be drugs. Yet, at least one congressman asked Dayan to compare his relationship with then Justice Secretary Leila de Lima to storm warning signals. And he replied: Signal No. 5. There are three million drug addicts in Pinas and these congressmen were more interested in learning about a relationship that Facebook could easily classify as, It’s complicated. And it became more complicated when Dayan found out de Lima was having an affair with another bodyguard, or was that two bodyguards? And that’s when their relationship fizzled out to Signal No. 1. If only this complicated relationship didn’t involve drugs, de Lima could be teased with, Haba ng hair! Instead, the better term is, Haba ng pila! Haba ng pila of cases, hearings, accusations, allegations, threats to show sex videos. Hmmm. Here’s a meme for these interesting times: “Be careful when you blindly follow the Masses... sometimes the ‘M’ is silent.” Discernment must be the key to solving the drug menace, so you can pick the real from the fake. The concert tickets were sold out by Friday noon, and scalpers are now taking advantage of the situation. How to be sure the scalper is selling authentic tickets? That’s the P50-million question even a drug distributor like Kerwin Espinosa may want to know, provided he’s a fan. If he’s not, he would behave like me for a concert starring Beyonce, Lady Gaga, or Taylor Swift: Ho-hum. Yes, your bucket list can be the other’s bakit list. The ticketing system crashed after each transaction, and this worsened the anticipation on whether we could secure tickets or not. It took us five hours of waiting which included listening to the staff at the counter announcing the tickets that were already sold out. My bro almost quit and started to say he’s not exactly a fan, that he’s content listening to this band’s music anyway without watching them live. Well, he’s a fan of Suede and Morrissey. His bucket list can be your bakit list. I watched a Bruno Mars concert despite my lack of familiarity with his music, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out, Oh, that’s his song? My age group—hehe—was generously represented in that concert, proving that taste in music is not directly connected with one’s age. Concerts and travel are two of life’s pleasures. I’m tempted to add “simple” to that, but they’re not as simple as, say, buying movie tickets. There are people who crave for more—way above concerts and travel. And this could drive them to work more, strive more, earn more, which can be good qualities in improving character. But once the wants are beyond their reach, would that tempt them to join the drug trade? This joke is always revived each time a foreign artist’s concert is announced in Pinas: a fan selling his kidneys to have money for the tickets. No need to sell anything. Hey, the Ten Commandments don’t have this as No. 11: Thou shall watch the concerts of your favorite artists. If it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be. I would have loved to see Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie when they were still together. But after they parted ways, anything is possible now—walang perfect love, walang happy endings, walang forever. So, I watch concerts, and consider that as my diet plan since the food budget has been credited to the ticket seller’s bank account. Right after securing concert tickets, my sis and I watched “Allied” which stars Brad and Marion Cotillard who was rumored to be the third party behind the breakup, prompting people to comment, Karma is a b*tch. No, that wasn’t the exact comment but could be shortened that way. The Brangelina pair began in the set of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” when Brad was still married to Jennifer Aniston. When the breaking, er, breakup news was on for Brangelina, people started to believe that Cotillard was the cause. Scenarios in “The Unmarried Wife” come to mind. Yup, it’s complicated. I wonder if Dayan can now be called as The Unmarried Hobby, er, Hubby. There are Pinays who have stopped wearing neck scarves, their way of staying as far away as possible from de Lima. But the cool weather inside cinemas may still require shawls, so…
